SVP/Chief External Affairs Officer
Adam Sachs is the Club’s Senior Vice-President and Chief External Affairs Officer. Prior to joining the Royals in May 2021, he was a Partner at a large, regional law firm, and a managing director within the firm’s governmental affairs joint venture. Sachs has extensive experience advocating at the local, state and federal levels of government, and has managed legal, government affairs and community relations aspects of several large, multi-dimensional real estate development projects.
Adam works with executive, regulatory and legislative bodies at the local, state and federal levels of government, as well as community, charitable and civic organizations, to advance the business objectives and interests of the Royals. He works across departmental lines with the legal, human resources, corporate partnerships, community impact and corporate communications teams to advance the interests of the Club. He also provides strategic advice and counsel to the Chairman and President of Business Operations on various Club-related matters, including special projects such as the stadium and ballpark district development.
Adam previously served in various senior legal and legislative roles on Capitol Hill, including Chief Counsel and Staff Director to a House Veterans Affairs Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee led by current House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-SC). Adam was awarded special recognition for his “distinguished service to veterans” by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General (VA-OIG).
Sachs was recognized by Missouri Lawyers Media as an In-House Counsel of the Year for private companies in 2023. He is also included in the Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s “Power List” for Sports & Entertainment Law.
A Kansas City native and lifelong Royals fan, Sachs is highly active in civic affairs, currently or having previously served as Chairman of the Board, Urban League of Greater Kansas City; Vice-Chair, Harry S. Truman Library Institute; Vice-Chair (and current Chair-Elect), Negro Leagues Baseball Museum; Co-Founder, Monarchs Club; President, University of Virginia Club of Kansas City; Treasurer and Executive Committee Member, American Jewish Committee/Jewish Community Relations Bureau (AJC/JCRB) of Kansas City; Executive Committee, Pembroke Hill School Alumni Association; Board of Directors, First Tee of Greater Kansas City; Board Member, New Reform Temple.
Sachs’ baseball career fizzled out when his knees got the best of him as a backup catcher in the Ban Johnson Amateur League in Kansas City. He also has a journalism background, having been a photographer and sports editor for an award-winning school newspaper at the University of Virginia. His golf-related photographs have been published by Global Golf Post and GolfDigest.com.
Sachs received his Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis and his bachelor’s degree in American Government from the University of Virginia. He and his wife, Julana, reside in Kansas City, Mo., and have four children: Haleigh Harper, Maggie Campbell (Andrew), Ellie Rose Sachs, and Phinney Sachs. Julana and Adam are also proud grandparents of Lynnie and Bode Campbell.
